Since the inception of DEI Consulting Engineers in 1999, our company has continually built on our reputation of providing exceptional client service, innovative, cost-effective, and practical engineering solutions specifically designed for each individual project and unmatched design documentation.
With two office locations, one in Waterloo and a satellite office located in Hamilton, the firm provides professional mechanical and electrical consulting engineering for architects and building owners.

We support each client with a comprehensive consulting approach, innovative and sustainable designs, and unmatched customer service. Our engineering team brings a commitment to design integrity and quality, meticulous attention to detail, and proactive management of the complex engineering problems encountered on a diverse array of projects.
Since 2015, DEI Consulting Engineers has proudly announced the appointment of eleven new Partners to our ownership team and the appointment of five new Associates. These Partners and Associates represent the future of the company, and they are committed to the upholding and building upon the reputation DEI Consulting Engineers has built in the industry. Between our two offices and business divisions, we employ over eighty staff members with diverse engineering backgrounds that are all committed to our company engineering philosophy and goals.
DEI Consulting Engineers understands that the best systems are functional, energy efficient, and are cost-effective. Our philosophy when designing building systems is to pursue sustainability and energy efficiency in our engineering on high quality documentation, value engineered with a common-sense approach to suit the building and occupancy. Our service is to consult with and administer for the client professionally engineered systems from concept design to project completion. Our commitment to each project is that the owners and occupants of the building have a facility built to our specifications and drawings with quality materials and workmanship, the proper environment for their facility, and an energy efficient system.
DEI Consulting Engineers works to ensure that it remains abreast of technological advancements in our industry, especially when these new developments add value for our clients. In response to the industry shift from two-dimensional drafting to three-dimensional modeling, our staff are fully trained on how to utilize Revit properly and leverage the built-in engineering and coordination tools thru our internal BIM Manager and external training programs. Our engineering team has completed projects with construction budgets of over $100 million to a Level of Development 300/350 across a wide range of building sectors.
As a firm we are committed to delivering on each client’s goals with systems that are practical, sustainable, energy efficient, designed to ensure that the occupants, building owners, and user groups have the best possible environment, maintain project budgets, and consider operational costs. Our engineering teams work diligently to incorporate sustainable design elements, carbon reduction strategies, and energy efficiency measures within each project while maintaining the goals and budgetary requirements of the project.
Lastly, in April 2015, DEI Consulting Engineers opened a new division, Aquatic Design & Engineering. Mr. Jamie Lopes, CPO, CPO, NSPFI leads this division and has over 15 years of experience completing aquatic design, reports, audits, and direct site supervision services. Mr. Lopes has been the Aquatic Project Lead for major renovations, additions, and new builds throughout Canada. With this experience, Mr. Lopes has extensive and in-depth knowledge of Building Codes and Health Regulations governing Pool Spa Facilities. Additionally, Mr. Lopes is involved in the Ontario Ministry of Health review of current Health Regulations and will continue to be involved in the process of updating these codes, giving him the ability to ensure designs account for future requirements.
Our office is licensed with the Professional Engineers of Ontario and the Consulting Engineers of Ontario and holds memberships in several other provinces throughout Canada. Several staff are licensed in numerous provinces and are members of various industry associations including ASHRAE, NFPA, CaGBC, etc
